Red Square Means In-State Tuition is Most Difficult Difficulty

For some reason, the difference between in-state and out-of-state tuition is not very drastic in New York relative to many other states.  That’s not because in-state rates are high, they aren’t.  Out-of-state rates are typically just less than you might expect.  Nevertheless, the difference is significant and those who deserve in-state status in New York ought to get it.

If you’re under 21 (and most undergrads are) then Universities in New York generally requires a year of pretty strict financial independence.  That is generally do-able with a part-time or full-time job coupled with student loans if in school but part-time school or less is typically advised.

New York Reciprocity Agreements:

New York is one of the seven US states that does not participate in any regional reciprocity agreements for undergrads. That means if you’re coming to or leaving NY for college, you won’t get any special tuition deals in nearby states.
