University of Idaho In-State Rules

University of Idaho In-State Requirements:

As with many universities, the burden of proof lies upon you (the petitioner) to prove to the college that you are in Idaho for purposes other than education.  In addition to the usual required domiciliary items, you must also be able to financially support yourself to a certain degree.  Another thing to note about this university is that living within campus-related housing (this includes both resident halls and Greek housing) does not count toward evidence of your Idaho address and physical presence.  Attending school full-time is also seen as proof that you are in Idaho solely for education versus being an actual new resident who moved to the state for reason(s) other than education. Thus, if taking over 8 semester credits during your domicile period then you are seen to be in Idaho primarily for school; in almost all cases this disqualifies you from being granted in-state residency at the college.

In general, a good candidate for in-state tuition here is a person who:

• firmly wants to plant their flag in Idaho
• can sever all ties to other states and establish in Idaho
• does not live on-campus
• can significantly (but not necessarily completely) financially support self and all expenses
• is able to get student loans if need be
• is able to stay in Idaho with limited absences
• is able and willing to attend school less than full-time during domicile period

University of Idaho Out-of-State Tuition vs. In-State Tuition:

An annual tuition difference of $13,530 definitely adds up over the course of four years. This means that the total difference in cost between in-state and out-of-state tuition is $54,120 for a full four-year education.

 

University of Idaho Financial Aid:

A couple things you need to know about financial aid as it relates to earning in-state residency:

1. Any financial aid including grants and scholarships that require your being a tax dependent of somebody OR require you to be an out-of-state resident will in general disqualify you from establishing residency.  This means that by accepting such awards, you will be getting no closer to in-state tuition.
2. Your financial aid is re-assessed after earning in-state status and your Expected Family Contribution will be taken into consideration in light of the reduced tuition you will owe.

University of Idaho Grants:

Grants are the most desirable form of financial aid because they do not need to be repaid. This school offers two types of grants that are funded by the federal government and the State of Idaho: Federal Pell Grant and the Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (SEOG).

 

University of Idaho Scholarships:

Merit Scholarships

Incoming freshmen with high school GPA of 3.0 or higher are guaranteed to qualify for a combination of scholarships equal to the level of funding listed below under the Go Idaho! Program for residents or the Discover Idaho! Program for nonresidents. These amounts are renewable for three additional years if minimum GPA requirements are met.
