Auburn University In-State Requirements:

Similar to University of Alabama-Tuscaloosa, there’s a big thing at Auburn University…you need to be 19-years-old and financially independent before you begin your domicile period.  Well, that’s technically true; however, for a limited time and on a case-by-case basis completely tied to the whimsy of the powers who be…you can get away with turning 19 during your domicile period.  I’m not sure this is something you want to bank on, but perhaps it’s worth a shot so long as you know the temporary nature of this current precedent.  This is big consideration for freshman especially who are typically 17 or 18 when become a freshman.

Outside of age, there are some other big requirements you need to be on board with before thinking about taking the plunge toward in-state tuition here.

Auburn University Out-of-State Tuition vs. In-State Tuition:

An annual tuition difference of $17,184 is substantial–that’s worth two years of in-state tuition!  This extreme difference helps establish Auburn University firmly among the universities with the biggest difference between in-state tuition and out-of-state tuition, rivaled only by a handful of schools.

 

Auburn University Financial Aid:

A couple things you need to know about financial aid as it relates to earning in-state residency at Auburn University:

1) Any financial aid including grants and scholarships that requires your being a tax dependent of somebody OR requires you to be an out-of-state resident will in general disqualify you from establishing residency.  This means that by accepting such awards, you will be getting no closer to in-state tuition.  There are some exceptions to this where you can accept certain awards that will not affect your domicile period but you will still forfeit upon earning in-state status.

2) Your financial aid is re-assessed after earning in-state status and your Expected Family Contribution will be taken into consideration in light of the vastly reduced tuition you will owe.

Auburn University Grants:

Alabama Student Assistance Program (ASAP)

Residents that demonstrate high financial need may be able to get an ASAP grant of approximately $750/year.

 

Auburn University Scholarships:

Approximately 60% of freshmen are awarded scholarships at Auburn University.  Auburn provides a variety of scholarships to eligible students through the Auburn University Scholarship Opportunity Manager. For instance, these academic scholarships, ranging from $6,000 to $16,000 per year and renewable for four years, are available to non-residents:

Presidential Scholarship

For students with ACT score of 33-36 or SAT of 1440-1600.  Added bonus of $1,000 technology stipend your first fall semester.

Heritage Scholarship

For students with ACT score of 31-32 or SAT of 1360-1430.

Charter Scholarship

For students with ACT score of 29-30 or SAT of 1290-1350.
