How to get in-state at Universities in Idaho:
Universities in Idaho adhere to the policy that you must prove without a doubt that you moved to and are living in Idaho primarily for NON-educational purposes. Getting in-state at schools in Idaho is medium-hard, and one of the factors that makes it more difficult is that full-time student enrollment disqualifies you as you are then presumed by the school to be in the state primarily for education. Thus, during your domicile period you must be enrolled for no more than 8 hours in any semester or quarter. Dorms are also a negative factor, because dorms are not a “bona fide domicile”. Additionally, many ID schools require limited absence time during your domicile period and for you to provide substantial evidence of your presence in Idaho during the domicile (just your word alone is not enough). Financially speaking you would have to be able to manage no less than over half of all your expenses, which would make you an independent versus a dependent (on someone else).
For Idaho schools, you are a good candidate if you:
- Are willing and able to take a Gap Year or attend no more than 8 hours per semester or quarter
- Can financially support yourself for at least over half of all your expenses
- Can remain in ID with limited absences during your domicile period
- Do not live in the dorms or within any on-campus residence
- Are able to commit yourself to ID via domiciliary requirements
Idaho Reciprocity Agreements:
Idaho is a member state of the Western Undergraduate Exchange which is a limited regional reciprocity agreement among select Western States. Favorable college tuition rates in nearby states are sometimes possible through reciprocity although many restrictions apply.
